Section 25(1) (g) of the Kenya Citizenship & Immigration Act provides that a Temporary
Passport is issued to a citizen of Kenya, who intends to travel within the East African
Community States: Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania & Uganda.
Section 26 further provides that a temporary passport shall be valid for a period of one
year from the date of issue.
Procedure for application

  1. Log in to E-citizen self-service portal. Select Directorate of Immigration Services
    (New Applications).
  2. Click “Temporary Permit Application.”
  3. Select the applicable Category (self or minor).
  4. Enter the Applicant’s details- (Full name, postal and physical addresses, gender,
    reason for travel, country of destination, occupation and next of kin details).
  5.  Upload the required documents.
  6. Click “Submit.”
  7. Pay the required fees- Kshs. 350/=.
  8. Print two (2) copies of the duly completed application form and two (2) copies of
    the invoice.
  9. Submit at the nearest Immigration Office (For Airports) or points of entry at the
    Border.

Required documents

  1. Original ID/Passport & copy for adults.
  2. Original Birth Certificate & copy for minors.
  3. Two passport sized photos (taken within 3 months).
