Certificate of Service

This is a written statement provided by the employer upon termination of an employee. In Kenya, every Employer is required under section 51 of the Employment Act, Cap 226 to give a Certificate of Service to an Employee upon termination of an employment contract unless the employment was for less than four consecutive weeks.

Failure to give or giving false information in a Certificate of Service is an offence punishable with a fine of up to Ksh. 100,000 or imprisonment for up to 6 months or both.
